Third and final performance for the 2016 OK State Fair. By this time I think word spread a little about it being my final performance for the State Fair ever. Three O'Clock in the afternoon I get a call. 

Morgan: Christophe? This is Morgan from the State Fair.
Me: Yeah?
Morgan: I heard whispers that you might be playing a certain song tonight that...
Me: No, I'm not playing that, don't worry.
Morgan: Okay, I just wanted to make sure...
Me: No worries. Your crowd wouldn't get it anyway.
Morgan: Just don't forget this is a family friendly event, there can be no cursing on stage.
Me: I know. Don't worry.

I've been playing the State Fair for five or so years now, Haven't broke any of the rules or had a breach of contract yet... Get to the Fair and stop by the stage, the sound man is nowhere to be seen. Some group is up there doing a bunch of covers. I walk around the fair for a while and come back about an hour and a half before I am scheduled to go on. Sound man tells me he will have the girl off before us by 8:50 for us to set up and play by 9. (Doesn't take us but a couple minutes to do our thing) I take off to use the restroom. A storm started while I was gone. I get back and they closed the bar and the stage. No lights, no sound, no people. At 8:50 exactly the big booming fair voice comes over the speakers telling everyone chance of storms are over and for all workers to go back to their posts and resume normal activities. Nobody comes to the Patio Stage. We wait around a bit. People come in wondering why nothing is going on. So, we set up on stage and play anyway... sans lights and sans sound system. People are coming in and watching as we play loudly and yell the lyrics. Security shows up, sits down and watches us do our thing while clapping after each song. Finally some barmaids come out of the back somewhere and start serving at the bar because customers are now there. Still no lights. Still no sound man. Cut a couple songs off the set because my voice was going out. It felt like screaming into dead air.

Day Two of my State Fair gigs for 2016. This one was on the bandshell stage in the afternoon. Hot. Bright. Uncomfortable. Our performance went a lot smoother, as the second one always does. Just a matter of getting comfortable censoring myself and changing lyrics. Once the first gig is out of the way it's comes natural. Had a good audience. Older folks that really enjoyed what we do. Usually on the bandshell stage it's just passersby stopping for a song or two, but we pulled in quite a few that stayed for the entire set.

The first of my three state fair gigs this year. Laid back set on the old Beer & Wine Garden Stage, re-named The Patio Stage. Felt a little weary and uncomfortable. So used to bars, when I have my first gig at the fair each year I always feel out of place. Other than that it was alright. Sounded good. Decent audience.

 Gig two at the State Fair. Early afternoon. This one was just too hot on stage. Zapped all of my energy. My bottled water even got too hot to drink before the set was over. It was still fun to do, just a very low energy set.

 Today was the first of this years State Fair gigs. We left an hour and a half early, yet still got caught up in traffic from the OU game and ended up being late. It worked out though, we only cut one song from our setlist. It's a little odd not playing with an instrument, so I did some percussion along with my vocals. Joey sounded great on the acoustic and we got to see a few old friends. It was a good time and has me looking forward to the next one.

 Day two of my 2014 State Fair experience. This time I had the full band out. We played at 8pm on  a Saturday night. The lights in my face were so bright I have no idea if we had one or one hundred people there to see us. All I could see was this two big blinding lights that reminded me of police headlights. Our soundmen were cool. Had a little trouble at first with the echo because of how the stage was built. First time we brought all the amps out, but it seemed to go well and we had fun.

 It was opening day of the Oklahoma State Fair. Doing one of the short fill-in sets I do every year. The first act never showed up, so I went on a few minutes early and played some extra songs. Weather was good, nice and cool. Soundmen were great. A little girl named Kailyn Joliff played after me. Her voice is much stronger than she looks. Impressive. Two more State Fair gigs to go. Looking forward to it.

 Second show at the State Fair this year, this time with full band. Still had difficulty with the staff and the police both about getting in for loading and unloading as well as parking. Sound wasn't as good as last year, but we had a blast playing. Plenty of people in the crowd and it was at night this time so I didn't have the sun in my face. Can't wait for next year.

 This was an early gig. Started at 10 am. The fair employees gave everyone a difficult time. Isaiah had to carry his drums piece by piece from the parking lot because they wouldn't let him come in to unload. It was a real headache. The performance was great though. Being the openers of the day there were not a whole lot of people sitting and watching, but there were a lot of large groups that came by and stopped for a song before moving on.

 The Oklahoma State Fair. This was a cool gig that I would love to do again. In spite of some mix ups where we didnt get our passes mailed to us in time, our set being half of what the contract said and the cold weather this was still an awesome show. The sound guys were awesome. Even though I was getting over being sick and just getting my voice back I don't think I ever sounded so good. The only thing I could really wish for was warmer weather so my grandparents could have come out.
